№ 03 — Practice

We serve a deliberately narrow roster of businesses across Metro Vancouver. It lets us do the work well.

A note from the founder

Why we started Coal Harbour.

I spent a decade inside Canadian accounting firms — first as a bookkeeper, then running the books function at a mid-sized CPA practice. What I kept seeing was the same gap: owner-operators were given bookkeeping that was either too transactional to trust or too grand to afford. The middle — quiet, considered, consistent, explained in plain language — was almost never offered. Coal Harbour Bookkeeping exists to fill that middle. We are small on purpose. We take on the number of clients we can serve properly, and no more. Every engagement is with one consistent bookkeeper who stays with you, and every month closes on time.

When corporate tax, advisory, or CPA review work sits outside our scope, we refer to a short list of Vancouver accounting firms we trust and coordinate year-ends directly with them. Your engagement, though, is with us, and your books are ours to keep quiet.

If that sounds like the kind of practice you have been looking for, we would like to meet you.

Our principles

Four rules we hold ourselves to.

  • Quiet is a feature.

We do not flood your inbox. We close your books, ask what we need, and otherwise leave you alone.

  • Named, not numbered.

You work with a specific person. They know you. You know them.

  • Plainly explained.

If we cannot explain a number to you, we have not done the job.

  • Selective intake.

We turn down work that is not a fit. It protects your time and ours.

Where we stand

A place we have been welcomed to work.

We respectfully acknowledge that our work takes place on the unceded traditional territories of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), and səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations.

We are guests on this land. Acknowledging that is the beginning, not the end, of the respect we owe the people who have cared for these waters, forests, and shorelines since long before the work we do here had a name.
